Appropriate Clothing

Please remember, now that it is getting colder (finally) please remember to dress your students with appropriate clothing.  If they do not have a jacket I will not allow them to go outside in the cold weather.  I have told the students this and they know they will not be able to participate in recess unless they are dressed correctly.
Thanks

4 days until break!

4 more days until winter break!!  Not that I am excited or anything!  To recap our week, we wrote about how to catch a gingerbread man in writing, and wow, some of the boys in our class are very serious about escaped bakery items!  In reading we reviewed homophones and prefixes.  In math we continued to talk about geometry and did an interesting word problem activity involving holiday items.  We also used geometric shapes to build reindeer!  In Social Studies we are talking about map skills and major features in the United States.  We had a special guest call in, Mr. Borg! He was taking a business trip to California and called in to tell us where he was and what he could see.  He crossed the Mississippi, Rocky Mountains, desert, and many other things.  It was great to talk to him and track his trip with the class.  It brought the map to life.  In Science we continued to learn about the different regions of Georgia.  We are learning what plants, animals, and features are in each area.  Ask your student what the State Marine Mammal of Georgia is?  Overall, another great week of learning for all!

I hope we have a wonderful last 4 days, the students are very restless and ready for a break!  We will be reviewing and taking benchmarks all week.  My gift to you parents is NO HOMEWORK OR READING LOG OR MULTIPLICATION LOG OR SPELLING!!  Please enjoy my gift, but remember to always take the time to use teaching experiences with the students when they present themselves.  My two youngest make fun of me because they say I can turn anything into a teaching moment!  Always take the time to answer the questions your student has and they will start to love learning!

I appreciate all of you and your help and I am so grateful for your student.  With the event that happen in Connecticut this past week I have a heavy heart and it made me realize that you can not take any time or person for granted.

Have a Happy Holiday or Winter Break!
Mrs. Borg

Bubble blowing and our cheerleader!

Exciting week

Do I say how much fun I have EVERY week??  At least I am having fun, hope the students are also!  This week, in writing, we finally practiced blowing bubbles by reading the how to pieces that different students wrote.  We had to follow exactly what they wrote on their papers and try to blow a bubble!!  I will be adding some pictures of some of the successful bubble blowing!  We moved on to opinion writing and some students struggled with supporting WHY they have the opinion they do.  It is hard to back up how you feel about something.  In reading we focused on author's purpose and possessive pronouns.  Science and Social Studies was spent reviewing and wrapping up our units on Susan B. Anthony and Weathering & Erosion.  The Holiday Shop went well and many students found the gift of giving is much more gratifying than receiving.  I have some great stuff planned this week and hope to say again next week how much fun we have while learning!!

Just a couple of notes, if you are in my Writing and Reading we go to the media center every other Tuesday.  Please remind students to bring their books back.

Thanks,
Mrs. B

Greetings!

I hope everyone had a wonderful break, I know I did!  We had a great week and accomplished a lot.  We worked on another "how to" piece this week, how to make a cookie.  It is real interesting to get a 3rd graders point of view on how to make cookies.  I did not tell them ingredients, temperature, or any details.  In math we reviewed area, started perimeter and ended with some geometry.  Next week we will start on angles.  I have to tell you, I love this stuff!!  The kids look at me like I am crazy because I get so excited!  In Social Studies we talked about Susan B. Anthony and in Science we worked on weathering and erosion.  We did some experiments and made a hypothesis on what we thought would happen in our experiments.  Progress reports went out this past Wednesday, hopefully you have seen them.

This week we will be going to the Christmas shop on Thursday.  This gives the students an opportunity to buy gifts for other people.  This is a way for the students to experience the gift of giving.  The other day in class we played a "would you rather" game, the question was...would you rather have a hundred dollars to spend on yourself or a thousand dollars to spend on others?  Everyone said they would want a thousand to spend on others!!  I thought that was awesome!  Have a great week and I will post the peek at the week by tomorrow night!

P.S.  Don't forget our canned food and toy drive!!

Thanks,
Mrs. B
